LCT Tiffany Studios Gold Iridescent Favrile Blown Glass Twisted Prunt Salt Dish Cellar

A favrile gold glass salt dish by Tiffany Studios, from the early 1900s. The petite hand-blown art glass is hand-blown favrile in a gold iridescent and tooled with twisted prunts.  The iridescent colors shimmer between shades of gold, orange, yellow and green. A polished pontil can be seen at the bottom. Tiffany Studios was a decorative arts company run by Louis Comfort Tiffany from 1848-1933. Louis Comfort Tiffany was the first Design Director at Tiffany & Co., founded by his father, Charles Lewis Tiffany.

Charles Tiffany wrote:  "Favrile glass is distinguished by brilliant or deeply toned colors, usually iridescent like the wings of certain American butterflies, the necks of pigeons and peacocks, the wing covers of various beetles."

Signed at bottom 'L.C.T.'
