This lovely antique ceramic holder was used as a sponge holder during the Art Nouveau period, in the early 1900s. The exterior is hand-painted with four delicate water lily’s on a pale green and blue background. The handles and rim are in matte gold. The removable ceramic insert underneath kept the sponge dry. This piece would work well with a bar of round soap.
In very good antique condition, with a dark spot and a light stain at the outer rim (see photo)
Size: 5” at its widest, 2” high (2-3/4” with hands. The insert is 3-3/4 wide.
