Antique early 1900s plaque was made in Hohenberg, Bavaria, by porcelain manufacturer C. M. Hutschenreuther. It features a glazed, enamel rendering of Joseph Karl Stieler’s portrait of Antonia Wallinger. The young woman is in a Grecian-style gold-embellished dress and is holding a golden goblet.
The plaque was hand-painted by Franz Xaver Thallmaier (1890-1910), of the most prominent porcelain painting studios in Germany. Signed F.H. Thallmaier München on the front lower left.
Markings on the back include a hand-written “Antonia Wallinger”, an impressed Hutschenreuther CMHR mark and a three-digit numeric code 311, which indicates the 5" x 7" size.
Porcelain plaque is in excellent vintage condition.
The outer frame is rustic gold, the inner frame is brown velvet, with some nap loss.
